Up early this morning with plans to go to the gold and spice souks (markets). Basically they are narrow passageways with small shops on each side. If you got lost you might not find your way out. Quickly I learned not to make eye contact or speak to anyone. I was at the back of the group and the next thing I know a guy grabbed me and was attempting to put a turban like scarf around my head. Jude who was right ahead of me was screaming at Don to rescue me. A video of this encounter would have been priceless.

Of course much shopping was done. Rosemarie and I both bought large quantities of Iranian Saffron. If anyone knows me well they know I can’t go anywhere without buying at least one pair of earrings. Jude also could not resist all that beautiful gold.

We only lasted a couple hours in the 115 degree heat. At least we were not dressed like this. Only Rosemarie would ask one of the women if it was hot wearing a burka.

We went back to the hotel to crash and ate lunch at Friday’s in our hotel. At 6:00 PM we had reservations to go to the top of the Burj Kalifa that is the tallest building in the world. It took 60 seconds in the elevator to go to the top and the views were magnificent. Unfortunately it is usually cloudy at this time of the year.

After returning to the ground we went to watch the dancing fountains that were very familiar to the fountains at the Bellagio in Las Vegas. We had no idea that the Burj Kalifa would have there own light show.

Tomorrow is the camel safari.
