After leaving Fes we traveled over the Atlas Mountains. There are 3 ranges of mountains – the lower, the mid and the high Atlas. We first traveled over the Lower Atlas and went from rain to snow. The highest elevation we reached was 8600 feet. During the trip we saw Atlas monkeys on the road. They certainly were not afraid of people.

This could even be in the Adirondacks.

Continuing over the mountains we passed many camps of semi-nomadic Berbers. Basically they follow the grass to feed their flocks of sheep.

Typical scenery through the mountains.
Sand fences. We did see snow fences earlier in the day made out of stucco.

Next, on to the desert and the dunes.
