We arrived in Reykjavik at 4:30 in the morning, an hour ahead of schedule. They opened the doors at both the front and the back of the plane. The only problem was there was no jet way. We had to walk down the stairs in the pouring rain and wait for a shuttle. The last time I had to climb down the stairs of a plane was in Zambia.
There was no down time on arrival day. We got on the bus after traveling all night and started the tour. In the rain and rain and rain. Sideways rain. Most of our rain gear was in our carryons that were under the bus. We finally insisted that they let us get to our luggage. It a little more comfortable after that but still cold and damp.
We had a beautiful lunch at a 360 degree observatory called Perla but again you couldn’t see anything because of the fog. I had a great vegan salad with lentils and beet root.

We finally got to our hotel in a little town called Fludir in the middle of nowhere. We had to cross the divide between North American and Europe where the plates meet. The only restaurant in town is Ethiopian.
We had signed up for an excursion for a dinner and a tour of a farm. The absolute last thing I wanted to do after being awake for 36 hours. It was more a restaurant on the grounds of a farm. The only farm we saw was a bunch of cows threw a window.

We had a presentation by the ubiquitous perfect Icelandic blonde beauty who’s family had owned the farm since the 1700’s. For an appetizer they gave us this homemade cheesey like substance that they eat like yogurt and gave us whey to drink with it. I think not! Next was cream of celery soup.

Another not for me! The third course was either well done beef or lamb. No one could tell! Another not for me! The vegetables were good. I came back to the hotel and ate a real Philadelphia pretzel from WaWa. Thanks Gerry!
Tomorrow is waterfall day. Praying for no rain!
