We checked out of our hotel this morning to a very dreary day. Think Rochester in the winter. We stayed up until almost midnight the night before hoping to see the northern lights because it was relatively clear with stars and that was a good sign. It was not to be. Our first stop this morning was at another waterfall. I know you are saying – another one? But believe it or not, they are all so different. This waterfall was called Galicia’s or The Golden Waterfall and apparently this is one of the most impressive waterfalls in Europe. This is another waterfall that Peggy and I pushed to the max.

Our next stop was to the Geyser area of Iceland and the world famous, Strokkur Geyser that erupts every few minutes. It wasn’t any Yellowstone but it still was pretty cool.

Our next stop was Þingvellir (Thingvellir) which translates directly to ‘the fields of parliament’ – is a historic site and national park in Iceland, east of Reykjavík. It’s known for the Alþing (Althing), the site of Iceland’s parliament founded in 930 AD, from the 10th to 18th centuries.
L
It is designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site. On the site are the Þingvellir Church and the ruins of old stone shelters. The park sits in a rift valley caused by the separation of 2 tectonic plates, (North America and Europe) with rocky cliffs and fissures like the huge Almannagjá fault.

It was absolutely fascinating to walk along a path were two plates from North America and Europe constantly are moving together and away. We drove to Reykjavik and checked into our hotel down by the marina that will be our home for the next 3 nights.

Tomorrow is the Blue Lagoon and the Viking Dinner Experience.
