After breakfast this morning the weather looked promising with the sun breaking through the clouds. We said goodbye to our new friend, Helga and took off on the bus.

Our third sister by another mother.

Our plan today was to travel the southern part of the country near volcanos and glaciers. Our first major stop was at the Skogofoss Waterfall. It drops 200 feet off the mountain and is slightly higher than Niagara Falls. Peggy convinced me that we needed rain gear, both pants and jackets. I never took the tags off the rain pants intending to return them to Amazon. Boy, was I wrong!

Rain gear over winter jacket, sweater and long underwear. It is not cold as much as damp and windy.
Finally the sun came out and we were rewarded with a rainbow.

Next stop the little village of Vik on the Atlantic Ocean. We stopped here for lunch and shopping. I had a huge piece of vegan lasagna that I shared for the price of $18.00. Food is very expensive in Iceland.

A little shopping fun. No Icelandic sweaters for this Florida girl.

As we were getting back on the bus we saw people riding Icelandic horses along the ocean. These horses were brought to Iceland in 900 AD by the Vikings. They are true pure breds because no other breed of horse has been allowed in Iceland. They are both strong work horses and fast race horses. They are the size of our ponies or miniature horses.

The next stop, the best waterfall ever! It is called the Seljalandsfoss waterfall and is about the same height of the first one but more impressive in a different way.

The beauty of this waterfall is that you can walk behind it!
I think we are both rocking the drowned rat look!
The walk behind the waterfall. It was impossible to take pictures because it was like being in a cold shower.

I can’t even describe how cold it was. You could feel the ice on the hand railings. This probably wasn’t the safest decision I ever made but you only live once. Thank goodness we borrowed towels from the hotel room because my hair was soaking wet. Very happy that this happened at the end of the day.

Tomorrow is more waterfalls and geysers!

Everyone needs to hug a puffin!

Good for you for exploring the back of the waterfall! I thought the waterfalls were great…each had its own personality. Hiked up to the base of several smaller but higher cataracts and had great views down on our ship in various harbors. Continue to enjoy!
