We boarded a small bush plane that made 2 stops before we reached out final destination. The entire flight was only 30 minutes so it was a lot of up and down. All I could think of was that AlohaAirline plane that exploded because all it did was island hop.

For the last 4 days we have been staying in Maasai Mara. This place was a treasure trove of animals. We have been on game drives every day. So far we have seen 4 out of 5 of the big five. Still missing the rhino but we have plenty of time for that. Unfortunately my best photos are on my camera so for now you have to look at the I phone photos.

We went to the Marra River where the Great Migration occurs. Basically at this time of the year the animals cross from Tanzania to Kenya. Yesterday it rained where it shouldn’t have and it confused the animals. When we got to the river we watched zebras on both sides trying to decide whether to cross. They all lined up ready to go. They were right at the water line just standing there what seemed like forever. The leader was just looking around. From our vantage point, there were clearly crocodiles in the river. Whether the zebras saw them or not is not clear but eventually the leader turned around and all the zebras went back up the bank. Maybe to try another day or maybe to stay in Tanzania.

After we left the Marra River we stopped down stream in a little park for lunch provided by our hotel. Lots of great salads and pastas. While we were there we participated in a ranger walk. We learned lots of interesting facts about hippos. They are vegetarians and only eat leaves. They only come out of the water after dark when they will climb out of the water to feed on the leaves. Our guide said that they will never stray very far from the water.

Back to the hotel for one more day in Ambersoli.
