On our way to this tiny, tiny village with absolutely no shopping we stopped at the Budweiser brewery that is owned by the Czech Republic. I am not a beer fan at all and it was freezing both inside and out so I was very happy when the beer hours were up. However, my tour mates were very excited and no complaints were heard about drinking beer at 9:30 AM on a Sunday morning.

Apparently the lawsuit was settled. Budweiser in the USA can do what they want. The original company can sell their beer in the US in packaging that you don’t even know it is Budweiser.

The little village of Slavonic has no shopping and I think about 20 residents. We stayed in a delightful boutique hotel that I think that the owner/manager even cleaned the rooms. The rooms even had kitchens with microwaves. The main purpose of us being there was for the “Day in the Life” experience that OAT is also known for. We spent the day at the horse farm of Pavel and Olga. Olga was a professional jumper who decided that it was now safer to raise and train horses. Olga was also one of those people who benefited when the Czechs expelled 2 million Germans from the border lands. She was able to afford a very large farm that was abandoned by a German family.

Rapeseed fields on the way to the farms. Used mainly for canola oil.
Olga training a horse. She didn’t even have to touch the horse and he knew what she wanted him to do.
Therese training the horse.

After the horse training demonstration we all had to “work” for our meal. Some of us baled hay and filled the stalls and others helped prepare lunch.

The lunch crew. You don’t see Yvonne in any of this photos because she was the official photographer.

Andy and I offered to help Pavel with the reroofing of the barn but he declined.

Of course I had to be in charge of the tools.

Lunch was very special as was the entire day. We returned to our hotel to rest up for a wine tasting and dinner at the hotel

The wine tasting was held in caves below the hotel dating back to 1300. There are very, very expensive wines in this cellar.

We had a wonderful dinner and were serenaded with Moravian music. Even some singing and dancing happened.

Tomorrow Bratislava, Slovakia but of course many stops before.
